Latino Fest
Latino Fest was held at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds on September 18, 2016 and the League was there to offer voter registration and provide information on the voting process in Tippecanoe County. Over 100 people stopped by to inquire about the League and how to vote this election season. Thanks to all the volunteers who assisted throughout the day.

Out Fest
LWVGL participated in Out Fest on September 17, 2016 in downtown Lafayette. It was an exciting evening with close to 100 people seeking out information on the voting process, updating registrations or registering for the first time. Thanks to all the League volunteers for their time and energy.

Harrison College

Our first visit to Harrison College (Columbia Street, Lafayette) for voter Registration was on September 14, 2016. The students and staff were eager to learn more about the League of Women Voters and the voter process. Many took advantage of our presence to register to vote and become better informed.

Girl Scouts and the League
LWVGL teamed up with the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to host a voter registration event at the Tippecanoe Mall on October 1, 2016. The Scouts are working on a badge called, "I Promised a Girl Scout I would Vote". The girls asked passersby if they were registered and sent them to the League table to complete the paper work if needed.

Boiler Bridge Bash
On August 18, 2016 six thousand Purdue Freshmen were bused to Lafayette for during the Boiler Gold Rush Program. The community of Lafayette welcomed them to their new home and the League was there to assist with voter registration along with three other groups. It was a great evening. Thanks to our League members who attended: Sarah Kelly, Nancy Clement, Margaret Brender, Debby Sherman and Joanne Evers. Have a great semester everyone!

  Back to School Events

The Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo invited LWVGL to its Annual Back to School Rally on July 23, 2016 at Ivy Tech Community College Lafayette to offer voter registration. What a great day to meet and greet the community and assist with voter registration. It was a great day for LWVGL volunteers, Nancy Clement, Margaret Haas and Joanne Evers. Thanks, Black Expo!

On August 6, 2016 LARA (Lafayette Adult Resource Academy) held their back to school program for the community and LWVGL was there to provide voter registration. It was a pleasure to talk to members of the community and register voters. Kudo's to LARA and the Salvation Army Volunteers for their service and thanks to the LWVGL volunteers, Ken Jones, Adelia Sorge, Margaret Haas, Susan Whittemore, Sarah Kelly and Joanne Evers.

Mosey Down Main Street

Voter registration got off to a good start summer of 2016 at Mosey Down Main Street on July 9. Thanks to Donna Giroux, Sarah Kelly, Adelia Sorge, Bill Evers and Joanne Evers for a productive evening.

  Black Lives Matter Event

On September 26, 2016 LWVGL joined the Black Live Matter 2 event at the UU Church in West Lafayette to celebrate the diversity in our community and provide an opportunity to register to vote. Many workshops were offered for continued discussion on racial inequality, building community connections and more. Thanks for the invitation to participate.

On April 4 LWVGL participated in Black Lives Matter at the Unitarian Universalist Church providing last minute voter registration for the 2016 May Primary. The computers were in top form and several individuals were able to confirm their registration, update their addresses and register for the first time. Thanks to Margaret and Ron Brender, Jean Andres, Margaret Hass and Joanne Evers.

The evening event was a great success.

  Ivy Tech Community College, Lafayette

On March 24th, LWVGL volunteers (Adelia Sorge, Margaret Brender, Sarah Weaver, and Joanne Evers), visited Ivy Tech, Lafayette at the request of faculty to register students for the May 2016 Primary. It was a great success. Thanks to all.

Ivy Tech students and faculty took advantage of online voter registration for participation in the 2016 elections.

  2016 Super Tuesday Events at Purdue

On March 1, 2016, the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program invited LWVGL to offer voter registration following the showing of the movie `Suffragette' as a kick off to Women's History month. Many attendees verified their voter registration status and/or registered for the first time.

Later in the evening, Purdue entities including, Pi Sigma Alpha, the Department of Political Science, the Brian Lamb School of Communications, and the Honors College hosted a high tech Super Tuesday Viewing Party with political discussion panels for the campus and the community. LWVGL was once again invited to offer voter registration to the participants.

  Latino Center for Wellness and Education
LWVGL was invited to register voters at the LCWE holiday party on Dec. 5, 2015. A great event for Latino families held at the Mama Inez Bakery in Lafayette. Adelia Sorge and Joanne Evers represented LWVGL for the evening.

  National Voter Registration Day

On September 27, 2016 LWVGL participated in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) in cooperation with Purdue Student Government and Pi Sigma Alpha, a Political Science Honorary, at the Purdue student Union on the Purdue Campus. The location was humming with students eager to prepare to cast their votes this year's General Election. Thanks to all the students who participated from the two groups and the League volunteers who shared their time and expertise.

  High School Voter Registration

Fall of 2016 found the Voter Registration Committee back in the High School Government classes across the County. Visits were made to all five public high schools and two private highs schools to share important information on the history and process of voting and registering eligible students to vote. Many thanks go to all the school administration and teachers who welcomed us into their classrooms and hallways. The presentations in the classrooms engaged 351 students. Fifty-nine students were registered during these times while 51 were already registered.

Since 2013, LWVGL has partnered with area high schools to provide information to government classes regarding the history of election law and current election practices in Indiana and Tippecanoe County. In addition every eligible student is offered the opportunity to register to vote. Below are photos and captions from Spring and Fall 2015 and Spring 2016.   Naturalization Ceremony

The annual naturalization ceremony held in West Lafayette was on September 16, 2016 at Burtsfield Gym at Salisbury and Lindberg. Ninety-nine new citizens were provided with instructions and a voter registration form to complete and register to vote. League volunteers were available after the ceremony to answer questions and accept completed forms. Thanks to all the volunteers including Jean Andres, Margaret Hass, Debby Sherman, and Joanne Evers. Special thanks goes out to Linda Eales who organizes the ceremony for our community and who assists in recognizing the League and its presence.
