About

Political Without Partisanship

The League never supports or opposes political parties or candidates. We do, however, take positions on issues that affect voters. Sometimes these positions may align with a party or candidate, and sometimes they may not. Our focus is acting on policies and measures in the public interest.

Our Work Today

Today, the League empowers voters and defends democracy. We register and educate voters, provide nonpartisan election information, and advocate for policies that protect the freedom to vote and strengthen our communities. Our work combines direct voter engagement with action on issues that impact democracy at every level.

Strong Communities Start Here

The League is powered by its members. We are a grassroots organization where people learn, discuss, and take action on issues that shape our communities. We host fair, transparent forums and provide opportunities from local events to national workshops for civic engagement at every level. Whether you give time, resources, or both, your investment strengthens democracy.

League members gain skills in public discussion, advocacy, and informed decision-making while connecting with others who share a passion for civic life. Your participation opens doors to experiences that will both inform and inspire you.

Over 100 Years Strong

The League of Women Voters was founded in 1920, just months before the 19th Amendment secured women the right to vote. Born from the suffrage movement, the League set out not to back parties or candidates, but to educate voters and shape public policy for the good of all.

From winning early reforms in health, labor, and social policy to helping establish the United Nations, the League has spent more than a century empowering voters and defending democracy. Today, we carry that mission forward, ensuring every voice is heard.
